Northern Peninsula Area water supply project

Delivered in partnership by the Australian Government and Queensland Governments.

Work has begun on the project to design and construct an upgraded water treatment plant, replace sections of water mains in Bamaga and Seisia, and connect a new water main in New Mapoon. The water infrastructure upgrades will include:

  • Bamaga water treatment plant upgrades – new pre-treatment, filters, dosing systems, UV treatment, associated pipework and control system known as SCADA to monitor and control the treatment processes.
  • NPARC water mains replacement - replacing approximately 1.4km of asbestos cement pipeline in Bamaga, replacing approximately 1km of asbestos cement pipeline in Seisia and connection of new water main in New Mapoon.

The project team will consult with all stakeholders throughout the project. They will work closely with the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council and the local community to consider water safety and reliability issues.
